  • Formation : has been / have been + (-ing) form of the verb.
  • * Usage : an action began in the past, still going on and may continue in the future.
  • * Words used with the tense : since - for - etc.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Examples*
  • Put in the correct tense of the given verbs:
  • 1- I (live ) here since 1970.* I have been living here since 1970.
  • 2- Lunch is not quite ready yet, although I ( cook ) all morning.* Lunch is not quite ready yet, although I have been cooking all morning.
  • 3- That book ( lie ) on the table for weeks. ? You ( not read ) it yet ?* That book has been lying on the table for weeks. Why haven't you read it yet ?
  • 4- I ( not see ) you for a long time.* I haven't seen you for a long time.
  • 5- He ( learn ) English for three years.* He has been learning English for three years.
  • 6- You already ( drink ) three cups of tea since I ( sit) here.* You have already drunk three cups of tea since I sat here.
  • 7- " You ( wait ) long for me ?"* How long have you been waiting for me ?
  • 8- You must wake her up. She ( sleep ) soundly for a long time.* You must wake her up. She has been sleeping soundly for a long time.
  • 9- They ( shut up ) the house and ( go away ) for a holiday.* They have shut up the house and gone away for a holiday.
  • 10- I ( look for ) my pen all day, but I ( not find ) it yet.* I have been looking for my pen all day, but I haven't found it yet.
  • 11- My watch ( go ) for three days and it ( not stop ) yet.* My watch has been going for three days and it hasn't stopped yet.<LI>12- That fine tree ( stand ) near our home ever since I was a boy.
