Whose knife was it?The knife belonged to Arne Sa knussemm the great traveler who had been before them.
What did Arne Saknussemm do near the entrance to a dark tunnel? Why?Arne saknussemm carved his initials A.S in the rock near the entrance to a dark tunnel to guide them on their way.
How did Axel feel when he saw the initials?He forgot the dangers of their journey. He was filled with much excitement as his uncle the professor.
Why could not they continue their way in the tunnel?Because there was a huge rock that blocked their path
Why did they decide to break the rock?If they could not break the rock, they would not deserve to reach the centre of the earth. They wanted very much to re reach the centre of the Earth
What did Axel suggest to break the huge rock?Axel suggested using gunpowder to blow the rock up.
How did they blow the rock up?Hans made a hole in the rock. He packed it with gun powder. Axel made a long fuse out of cloth and laid it against the gunpowder
What happened when Axel lit the fuse the next day?After explosion there was a huge hole opened and the sea become one big wave. It lifted the three of them and threw them forward
Why did not Axel worry about losing their supplies?Because they would probably be killed very soon in the water
